The first of many...

Today I finished off the first of probably many blankets that I will make for baby #3.  I bought this flannel over a year ago thinking that I would use it for a friend who was expecting...but then I realized that I couldn't part with these adorable dogs!  (I do this a lot with fabric....)  Thank goodness I now have a baby boy coming who will get to snuggle in this cozy little blanket.

I've had people ask how I make this size receiving blanket, and it's totally easy.  Here's how...  All you need is 1 1/4 yds of flannel fabric.  Put wrong sides together and sew around the edge leaving a space on one edge so that you can turn it right side out.  Turn right side out, make sure to poke your corners out well (I usually use the tips of my scissors for this).  Then top stitch around the edge of the blanket.  I like to zig-zag around to make it look more interesting.  Then finish off by sewing a big X through the middle of the blanket, that way both sides stay in place when the blanket is washed.  (tip:  I use the zig-zag stitch to do my X, that way you can't tell as much if you aren't going perfectly straight.)

This is the perfect size for nursing, swaddling, or just laying on the floor for baby to play on.  Go find some crazy, fun fabric and make one for someone you know who's expecting!  They'll love you for it!
