Baby things!

Lately I've been more into my sewing machine than my knitting needles.  It's so much fun to create little things for a baby.  I always make a special blanket for each of our kids.  I make it bigger than crib size so that as they grow, it still can cover them.  Both of our girls love their blankets.  Our little boy gets a pirate quilt!  I've been waiting for a year to make this blanket.  I saw the fabric in an adorable fabric store in Utah last year and even though a baby wasn't on it's way...I just couldn't pass up all this fun pirate fabric.  I found this cute pattern on this website.  And it turned out really cute...had a couple of problems, but that was just from cutting fabric too late at night.
Argh!  The front of the quilt

This cute cute hat I knitted while I was Utah.  I the pattern is from this book.  I made a matching one for my sister-in-law in purple and green stripes (with a pom-pom on top!).

Another thing that I have made/bought for our kids is a special "lovey".  Our kids are finger suckers and are totally attached to their special "blankies".  I found the idea to make these from etsy.  I saw them and figured that I could make them myself.  So I bought some snuggly minky fabric, chocolate satin, and some ribbon and set to work.  One thing I really like about these is that even though minky is so expensive, I only bought an eighth of a yard, so really it didn't cost much at all.  Hopefully our little boy likes them as much as our girls do (although now we're at the point with our 4-yr old that we want to wean her off sucking her fingers and clinging to her "ella", but we don't have a clue on where to start with that...but that's a whole other drama...)
Here is one up close.  So cute...so soft.  I used 3 different fabrics mixed and matched together.  Some have satin on one side, some have minky on both sides.  They're just the right size to grab with your fist.  And I put the ribbon tags on just in case he wanted to hang it off his finger (like our youngest daughter...who made a whole in the satin binding on her "pinky" blanket so that she can put her thumb, arm, or foot through it).

I have a few more baby projects I'll be working on over the next 9 weeks (only 9 weeks left already!  This pregnancy has gone by in fast forward...am I ready for baby #3???).  I'll post pictures as I finish things...
